These trees are the Sydney Blue Gum and can also be found decking the coastline of the New South Wales. The species extends from Bateman’s Bay all the way to the south to southern Queensland. The Sydney Blue Gum or Eucalyptus saligna is a tall tree that can grow as much as 60 meters or even beyond 70. You can easily distinguish it because of its very straight trunk with no branches from the ground up to almost half to two thirds of its body.

This particular tree grows in a wide array of soil types but it prefers sandy gravel to loams with a good concentration of clay as well as alluvial sediments. It has been especially cultivated in many South African plantations. The tree adopts very well in those conditions and grows very fast. However, the timber it produces is of a lesser density of 500-600 kg/m3 than those adult trees in Australia.

The timber from the Sydney Blue Gum is typically made of straight grains with a very few samples having interlocking grains. Its texture is a bit rough or coarse. Its heartwood wears a dark pink to a reddish brown hue. While its sapwood is commonly lighter in color and known to be very prone to lcytid borer infestation. The timber also has gum veins or gum pockets as its common feature.

The timber from the Sydney Blue Gum is widely used in various purposes since it is categorized as having an appearance grade or high quality timber. It can be used in construction as well as a wide range of applications. It makes up a beautiful timber flooring, furniture, joinery, paneling and even boat building. It is often used in construction as structural support for both domestic and commercial buildings. This is because its heartwood is known to be adequately durable. The dark brown honey color of the wood is also a favorite by many timber floor manufacturers and furniture makers. It is a hardy wood that can be used as indoor or outdoor furniture.
