The Attraction of Timber Floorings

attractive timber floorsOur home is the place where we can really be ourselves. It is a place where we spend our most important moments with our loved ones. Naturally, we put our mark on our homes by paying attention to every minute detail, from the colors of our walls, our furnishing and the choice of our decorative pieces. Our flooring is an important part of our home and we put much attention on it. Nowadays, many people prefer to use timber for their floors. Although timber is much more expensive, it has found a lucrative niche in the flooring industry. It has its attraction despite its relatively high cost because many people are willing to spend more just to have a nice floor for their homes.

Timber flooring, as its name suggests, is actually a type of wood flooring. Some people confuse timber with wood, but they do not actually pertain to the same thing. Timber floors are made from recycled wood boards. These boards or planks are so broad, which is why it is called timber, similar to the big and wide trunks of felled trees. “Timber!” is A warning call whenever a big tree is being cut and fallen.

The reason why timber floors are so popular is its weather-beaten look. A timber board with dark spots and little cracks may very well look like it has been around for years. The older the board looks, the more attractive it is. However, a quality and genuine timber flooring may be measured on the size of the boards, the texture, and the sheen or patina on the wood. The patina is the accumulated changes on the wood including surface texture and color, which occur over a long period of time. Choosing to have timber floorings is ideal if you are creating vintage look to our home. It is also ideal if you want your living space to be a traditional one, with a touch of nature in every nook and cranny.

Timber floorings are very beautiful, but they can be expensive and difficult to maintain. These floorings must not be exposed to direct sunlight, which can have an effect on timber. Sunlight stimulates a chemical reaction on the wood. You can easily use shades or curtains to protect your floors or move your rugs to cover the portion of the floor penetrated by the sun.

Another way to prevent any scratches on your floor is to place rubber at the bottom of your furniture’s legs so that whenever they are pushed unintentionally, it will not leave any markings on your floor. These rubber soles can be easily purchased at any hardware stores. In addition, make sure to check the soles of your shoes especially those with high heels. Shoes with worn out soles may no longer cover the nails or the wooden edges of your heels, which could scratch your timber floors.

For sure, timber floorings offer a unique look to your home than your regular wooden flooring. Its beauty is well worth it, in cost and upkeep.
